R18: U19s lost by 7

23rd August 2009

Taking on a powerful opposition for the second week in a row, the Old Mentonians were looking forward to the challenge in preparation for the finals.

The Panthers started well and had most of the play in the first quarter. Elliot Macquire was providing plenty of drive out of the middle and the forwards were looking dangerous. The Old Mentonians perhaps could have been further than 15 points ahead at quarter time. Hampton challenged in the second quarter but the Panthers were able to stay in front at half time.

Both sides continued to be desperate in the third quarter with the respective defences doing well. The Old Mentonians were able to respond each time Hampton threatened and had a four point lead at the last break.

The young Panthers continued to give their all in the last quarter and were in the contest right until the end but unfortunately they were just edged out. The Old Mentonians face a strong Bentleigh side in the first week of the finals.
